random ramblings

The past two weeks have gone by in a blur as I finished up a large order for Terrain. Even though I am excited about the work and love how everything turned out, it was an enormous undertaking for me, and it left me feeling a bit guilty for abandoning other aspects of my life.

In the meantime I realized that over 5000 kind individuals now favor my shop on etsy. No. 5000 was MonkiVintage, which is a great little vintage store with beautiful well priced items, stunningly photographed. 5000 is a big number. Thanks to all of you!

Lastly, I have a blogger question. Everyday I run across new wonderful blogs, and I have a long list of old time favorites, but I have yet to come up with a good way to keep up with everyone. I know I can seek out blogs I follow through my dashboard, but it still requires logging in and I just don't do it often enough. Do you have ideas for how to easily get updated when there are new posts on your favorite blogs?

I wish everyone a wonderful week ahead!

  1. I have my blog list set to be in order of the latest to update so when I go onto my blog I can immediately see who has updated by who is near the top of the list. Perhaps that's what you meant by having to log in... I do it that way rather than having to log on to the actual dashboard.

  3. I use Google Reader religiously. You simply add subscriptions for all the blogs you read (which initially will take some time) and then when each individual blog is updated, the feed line will bold indicated there are posts you haven't read.

You can also organize within Google Reader in a variety of ways (like I have all my knitting blogs in one folder, cooking blogs in another etc). And you can flag or star posts for later... Obviously it isn't perfect but I can easily follow a ton of blogs this way without spending very much time each day doing it.

Congrats on finishing up a huge order...I bet it feels great to have that accomplished!

  4. Congratulations on the big number! That's quite some accomplishment and your beautiful work deserves the attention.

I use Outlook (windows user here) and subscribe to all my RSS feeds there. It works quite well. Google also has a reader if you use gmail. I tend to use Outlook because I use it already for email. I think what ever system you use it's best to keep it all in one place and integrate the RSS feeds into a system you already use and are familiar with. Good luck!

  5. Hi Lotta, well done with the big order and the whopping 5000 who favourite your etsy store :) (I'm one of them). I use Google Reader too, actually only set it up last week but am loving how easy and convenient it is. You can either subscribe to the RSS feed on the blogs you like (if they have that option) or simply open Google Reader and subscribe there by typing in the name or url of the blogs you wish to follow. Even though I have all my favs in Google Reader now, I still 'follow' a hand full of them on my dashboard but for popular design blogs that might have numerous posts per week I find the best way to keep track is through Google Reader.

    Much luck to you!

  9. Google's RSS Reader keeps me sane. If you already use gmail then you don't have to do an additional sign in. If you use another mainstream free email, they usually have a reader that comes with your account, too.

  10. Love your beautiful works. Hope you'll get all the resting you need after the big work with your large scale order. Must feel good at the same time to see what you can accomplish. Mass production, and beautiful handicraft is a difficult equation I would imagine.

I currently follow as many as 292 blogs and like several other previous commenters I use Google Reader. Previously I used bloglines. It really revolutionized my blog reading to use blog readers.
